Meet the new AMWA Indiana chapter leaders

Our chapter announced the results of this year’s election at the end of August. Read on to learn about the volunteers who will help to lead the chapter this year.

Laura Town – President

Laura is the owner and president of WilliamsTown Communications, a content education firm that produces academic content and online courses for textbook publishers, universities, and private corporations. While her firm takes on a wide variety of topics, they specialize in nursing and healthcare. In addition, Laura has written a series of books for Alzheimer’s caregivers. She has been chair of the AMWA Indiana Education Committee for the past two years and has been instrumental in planning the chapter conferences. She lives in Zionsville with her husband and two sons.

Esther Asplund – President-Elect

Esther Brooks-Asplund received bachelor’s degrees in math and computer science from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in physiology from Penn State University. After a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, she accepted a fellowship and a clinical scientist position at a contract research organization in North Carolina, serving as a project leader for a phase III drug development program and authoring regulatory and clinical documents. In 2006, Esther launched her freelance regulatory writing business, Hoosier Medical Communication Services. Esther has been an AMWA member since 2005 and is serving a second year as the Member Resources Committee chair for the Indiana Chapter. Esther lives in Bloomington.

Nicoletta Bivi – Treasurer

Nicoletta completed her studies in Italy, where she earned a master’s degree in medical biotechnology in 2003 and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences in 2008. She left Italy in 2008 to start a postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she worked until 2012 as a postdoctoral fellow and as an assistant research professor. In 2012 she joined Eli Lilly and has worked there since then. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband, Chad, and their son, Thomas.

Rachel Mann – Secretary

Rachael Mann is a writer and editor with WilliamsTown Communications and specializes in creating educational materials. Her primary focus is on scientific, medical, and business topics. Since coming to WilliamsTown, Rachael has edited and developed materials for Pearson Education, John Wiley and Sons, and Nature Education, among others. These experiences have afforded her the opportunity to work with exceptional authors to craft informative, audience-minded texts. Rachel lives in Beech Grove.
