BioCrossroads Event--Meeting talent needs in the life sciences: How Indiana is preparing highly skilled talent to align with employer demand

  • Butler University Fairview House Community Room 4550 Sunset Avenue Indianapolis, IN, 46208 United States (map)

Though Indiana produces more life sciences degrees than average across the United States, the number of graduates is not increasing as fast as the U.S. as a whole. Given that the state’s life sciences jobs have grown more than 20% since 2001, how will our current pool of talent be able to support this growth?

When talent supply doesn’t meet demand for specific jobs, employers are often left without the personnel and expertise they need, costing valuable resources and hindering expansion. This is where Ascend Indiana, an initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), has stepped in. Ascend’s vision is for every employer in the state to have access to the skilled workforce necessary to thrive and for every resident to have the opportunity to pursue a meaningful career. Since launching in 2016, Ascend has helped to prepare and connect highly skilled talent to employers throughout Indiana. One of its solutions, Ascend Services, bridges the talent supply gap by building talent pipelines that find, train, and onboard qualified talent direct to employers.

In this Frameworx session, you’ll hear about several successful talent pipelines established to fill high-demand jobs for central Indiana life sciences companies. You will learn how industry, academia and organizations like Ascend are working together in creative ways to ensure Indiana continues to thrive in a growing economy.

Ascend Indiana President and CEO, Jason Kloth, and Vice President and Co-Founder, Stephanie Bothun, will introduce these programs, followed by a moderated discussion with industry and higher education leaders who have built their own custom talent pipelines:

  • Jack Phillips, President and CEO, Roche Diagnostics

  • Bryan Mills, President and CEO, Community Health Network

  • Rob Manuel, President, University of Indianapolis
